## Synopsis

Dafne and the Rest (Todo lo otro) (2021) is a Spanish dramedy created by Abril Zamora for HBO Max. Abril Zamora also plays Dafne, a thirty-something woman whose attempts to find herself and some love in Madrid keep stalling, while her circle of friends, including César played by Juan Blanco and Yerai played by David Matarín, stumbles through their own frustrations. The engine of the show is the gap between what these characters want from romance and sex and the lousy jobs that pay their rent, so each of the eight half-hour episodes turns on a small humiliation, an awkward date, a job that goes nowhere or a friendship under strain. Nuria Herrero, Andrea Guasch, María Maroto, Bea de la Cruz, Marta Belenguer, Pepe Lorente and Raúl Mérida fill out the ensemble, giving the single season the feel of a loose circle of people orbiting one another. The series is a single season of eight episodes, unfolding as one continuing story rather than isolated case-of-the-week plots. Its tone is candid, wry and frequently melancholic, with frank treatment of sex and desire. Fans of Girls, Fleabag and Insecure will find resonance in its sharp, honest portrait of urban adults stuck between ambition and inertia, set in a contemporary Madrid that feels both glamorous and precarious.
