## Synopsis

Mare of Easttown (2021) is an American crime miniseries created by Brad Ingelsby for HBO. Kate Winslet stars as Marianne 'Mare' Sheehan, a weary detective in a close-knit Pennsylvania town who is pulled into the investigation of a young woman's murder while her own life is coming apart. Jean Smart plays her mother Helen, Julianne Nicholson plays Lori Ross, a former classmate and fellow detective, and Evan Peters plays Colin Zabel, a newcomer to the force whose presence unsettles the case. Across seven episodes, the engine is simple and relentless: Mare chases leads through interviews, old grudges and gossip while drinking, family fights and private grief keep pulling her away from the work. Each episode peels back another layer of local secrets, suspicion and addiction in a community where everyone knows everyone. The atmosphere is bleak, intimate and slow-burning, with a melancholic, dread-filled tone that gives way to moments of raw emotional honesty. Fans of Broadchurch, True Detective and Sharp Objects will find resonance in its blend of whodunit tension and character-driven grief, and anyone who loves a patient, performance-led mystery will be drawn in.
