## Synopsis

The Swamp (2021) is a Russian psychological horror miniseries created by Dmitry Glukhovsky and Vladimir Mirzoev and produced for Kinopoisk. Five young Muscovites, among them Denis Titov (Ivan Yankovsky) and Maksim Koltsov (Tikhon Zhiznevsky), flee the pressures of city life for a weekend of adventure at a monastery near the half-abandoned village of Topi. What begins as a welcome escape from debts and personal worries gradually turns into a run of mysterious events that pull them toward the very problems they meant to leave behind. Sofia Gromkovskaya (Anastasia Krylova) and Elya Musaeva (Sofia Volodchinskaya) are among the group whose tensions surface as the reality of their surroundings grows harder to trust. Told across seven episodes of roughly an hour each, the series builds an atmosphere of isolation, folk mysticism and creeping dread in the Russian countryside. Its tone is eerie and claustrophobic, with a slow accumulation of unease rather than constant shocks. Fans of Twin Peaks, The Ritual and Viy will find resonance in its mix of rural strangeness and psychological horror. The miniseries reached a modest audience and is best suited to viewers who enjoy atmospheric, mystery-driven supernatural television.
