## Synopsis

SanPa: Sins of the Savior (2020) is an Italian documentary miniseries created by Gianluca Neri and released on Netflix. Across five episodes of roughly an hour each, it looks at San Patrignano, a drug rehabilitation community founded to help people addicted to heroin, and at its founder Vincenzo Muccioli, whom many followers regarded as a saviour. The series builds its account from testimony and archival footage, with contributors including Vincenzo Andreucci, Angelo Battistini, Walter Delogu, Andrea Delogu and Red Ronnie appearing as themselves. Its engine is the tension between the devotion Muccioli inspired and the charges of violence that gradually gathered around the centre, as each episode weighs witness accounts against public loyalty. The result is a limited series with a sober, investigative register, tense and morally complicated, touching on addiction, faith in a leader, and institutional power. Fans of Holy Hell, Wild Wild Country and Chernobyl will find resonance in its portrait of a controversial institution, its public reckoning, and the human cost of a closed community. Its focus is the story of a rehabilitation movement under scrutiny rather than a single life, set against the drug crisis of its time.
