## Synopsis

Genesis (2021) is a Brazilian national-television biblical telenovela created by Camilo Pellegrini, Raphaela Castro and Stephanie Ribeiro for Record. Adapted from the novel or book tradition of scripture retellings, the series follows the family saga of Jacob, Israel and his sons, with José do Egito (Juliano Laham) at the center of jealousy, betrayal and rise to power. Zilpa (Ingra Lyberato), Lia (Daniela Escobar) and Azenate (Letícia Almeida) anchor the women's side of the household, while Judá de Israel (Thiago Rodrigues) and Miguel (Paulo Dalagnoli) carry the weight of loyalty and guilt. The engine is generational: a single human choice sets off inherited rivalries that each new episode tests against faith and family duty. Shaped as one continuous serialized story across a single season of 226 episodes, it moves through ancient Near Eastern landscapes with a melodramatic, emotionally heightened register. Its tone is earnest and sweeping, rooted in the grandeur of creation myths yet built on the tearful confrontations and reconciliations familiar to telenovela audiences. Fans of The Bible, Joseph: King of Dreams and Corrida Final will find resonance in its blend of scripture and soap opera melodrama.
