## Synopsis

The Hitchhiker (1983-1991) is a Canadian and American cable anthology series created by Lewis Chesler, Richard Rothstein and Riff Markowitz, produced for HBO and USA Network. Across four seasons and 85 half-hour episodes, a young hitchhiker, played by Page Fletcher and Nicholas Campbell, drifts into the lives of strangers on lonely roads and introduces each story before the characters meet their frightening, sometimes supernatural incident. Each standalone tale is built around a fresh cast of guest players, including Alexandra Stewart, August Schellenberg and Klaus Kinski, so viewers never need to catch up on earlier episodes. The stories shift freely between eerie horror, science fiction, western, monster and dark comedy, giving the show a moody, unsettling atmosphere that leans on suspense and twisty endings. Fans of Tales from the Crypt, The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Darkside will find the same appeal in its compact, self-contained chills and its wandering host who ties the strange encounters together.
