## Synopsis

Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond (1959-1961) is an American horror anthology series created for ABC and filmed in the early days of live-era television. Each half-hour episode dramatizes a purportedly real-life supernatural or paranormal experience, with host John Newland appearing at the start and end to frame the tale as a documented true account. Because every story stands alone, the series offers no continuing cast; instead, viewers meet a fresh set of ordinary people caught up in haunting, premonition, and uncanny coincidence, and the drama turns on their growing unease as the rational world gives way to something unexplained. Across three seasons and 97 episodes, the series builds an eerie, measured atmosphere through stark studio sets, black and white framing, and the suspense of a closing reveal that leaves the mystery intact. The tone is chilling but restrained, with a mid-century seriousness that rewards patient viewers. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Tales from the Crypt will find a similar appetite for short, eerie tales told with a host's wry authority.
