## Synopsis

Allá te espero (2013) is a Colombian national-television telenovela series created by Herney Luna for RCN. Nazario Restrepo (Carlos Benjumea) is a family man who moves his wife Rosa María Restrepo (Mónica Gómez) and their household from the countryside into the city after economic hardship. Obsessed with the american dream, he decides to cross into the United States illegally, following the path his sister-in-law has already taken, and promises to earn enough money to bring his wife and son to join him. Principal cast also includes Sebastián Martínez as Alex Montoya, Alejandra Borrero as Magnolia Jaramillo, Valentina Rendón as Cecilia Restrepo and Adriana Silva as Paola. The engine of the story is the gap between the promise of prosperity abroad and the reality of a family left waiting at home, with each relative taking a side on whether the dream is worth the cost. The series is a single-season run of one episode, watched as a self-contained melodrama rather than a long serial. Set in contemporary Colombia with the migration route toward the United States as its backdrop, it carries an earnest, emotionally charged register of longing, sacrifice and family conflict. Fans of Yo soy Betty, la fea, Ugly Betty and Ellas son la alegría will find resonance in its warm domestic melodrama and its portrait of families stretched across borders.
