## Synopsis

Heaven and Hell: Soul Exchange (2021) is a Japanese crime drama miniseries aired on TBS, a ten-episode limited series. Haruka Ayase plays Mochizuki Ayako, a hardworking and inflexible detective with a strong sense of justice whose career keeps stalling. After she arrests a wanted murder suspect, her soul is exchanged with his just as she is looking forward to her reward, leaving her to pursue the case from inside a stranger's body. Issey Takahashi plays Hidaka Haruto, one of the principal figures tied to the investigation, alongside Tasuku Emoto as Watanabe Riku and Kazuki Kitamura as Kawahara Mitsuo. The engine of the show is a stubborn investigator fighting a clock while her own identity slips, as each episode turns on interviews, evidence trails and a serial killer hunt rendered with suspense. The tone is tense and gritty, with a mystery-driven pull and a moral unease about who really deserves justice. Set in contemporary Japan, the story unfolds in police offices, interrogation rooms and the city streets. Fans of Broadchurch and Quantum Leap will find resonance in its body swap premise, procedural pressure and character-driven suspense.
