## Synopsis

Noir (2001) is a Japanese animated action drama series created by Ryoe Tsukimura and produced by BeeTrain and Victor Entertainment for TV Tokyo. Professional assassin Mireille Bouquet (voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi) is drawn into a search for the truth when she answers an e-mail from Kirika Yumura (voiced by Houko Kuwashima), a young Japanese girl who remembers almost nothing about herself beyond a codename. Together the two women track down a thousand-year-old organization that has controlled their lives since before they were born, while Chloe (voiced by Aya Hisakawa) and Altena (voiced by TARAKO) add pressure from the other side of the conflict. Each episode mixes stylized gunfights and tense infiltration missions with quiet moments between the leads, building an intimate partnership out of shared danger. The series is set in present-day Europe, with Corsica providing a sun-washed backdrop to its shadowed plotting. Its tone is melancholic and stylish, carried by a haunting melody and a sense of buried history. Fans of Gunslinger Girl and Madlax will find resonance in its female duo at the center of a conspiracy-driven story. Ending on a bittersweet note, the single season of twenty-six episodes gives a complete arc to a story about identity, loyalty, and the cost of a violent life.
