## Synopsis

Summer Time Rendering (2022) is a Japanese animated supernatural mystery series produced by OLM and adapted from the manga by Shuhei Morita, broadcast on BS11. Its protagonist Shinpei Ajiro (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) travels back to a remote island for the funeral of a childhood friend, only to find the sleepy summer community gripped by a sinister supernatural force. Shinpei is surrounded by principal characters voiced by Anna Nagase as Ushio Kofune, Saho Shirasu as Mio Kofune and Yoko Hikasa as Hizuru Minakata, each tangled in the island's secrets and old grudges. The engine of the story is Shinpei's effort to understand what is happening and to find a way through a web of eerie events, with each episode peeling back another layer of the island's hidden history. The single season of twenty-five episodes builds as one continuing mystery rather than standalone cases. Set in a present-day rural Wakayama community, the series unfolds with a humid, languid atmosphere, where bright summer light sits uneasily beside dread, grief and a pervasive sense of unease. Its tone is melancholic and mysterious, with romance and regret running beneath the horror. Fans of Higurashi: When They Cry, Steins;Gate and Another will find resonance in its eerie village dread and time-bending suspense.
