## Synopsis

The Vineyard (2021) is a Spanish historical drama miniseries created by Susana López Rubio for Prime Video, running ten fifty-minute episodes in a single season. Two strangers, mining heir Mauro Larrea (Rafael Novoa) and Soledad Montalvo (Leonor Watling), find their destinies crossing in the second half of the nineteenth century, and the pull between them is tested by the family intrigues around them. Emilio Gutiérrez Caba plays Don Matías Montalvo, and Juana Acosta, Esmeralda Pimentel and Nathaniel Parker round out a principal cast of rivals, allies and family members. The engine of the story is a web of ambition, inheritance and rivalry played out across silver mines, vineyards, wineries and fading urban grandeur. Each episode turns a new deal, betrayal or secret into a larger picture of a family and a region in decline. The tone is sweeping and melancholic, a romance steeped in longing and loss that lingers on the beauty of estates and cities whose splendor is slipping away. Its scale and ornate period detail give it the feel of a prestige period saga, and fans of Poldark, Downton Abbey and The Crown will find resonance in its blend of romance, class conflict and generational history.
