## Synopsis

The Lost Pirate Kingdom (2021) is a US docuseries created for Netflix that blends narrated history with dramatized reenactments of real eighteenth century Caribbean pirates. Narrated by Derek Jacobi, the six-episode run follows figures such as Blackbeard, played by James Oliver Wheatley, alongside Benjamin Hornigold (Sam Callis), Charles Vane (Thomas Padley), Samuel Bellamy (Evan Milton) and Anne Bonny (Mia Tomlinson). Each episode is built from archival-style narration and actors staged in period costume, following how these outlaws plundered ships and wealth and formed a surprisingly egalitarian republic. The tone is sober yet gripping, with a documentary seriousness that lets the violence and hardship of seafaring life register without melodrama. Viewers who enjoy the history of the golden age of piracy will find the mix of factual storytelling and staged drama engaging. Fans of Black Sails and Chernobyl will find a similar pull toward true events rendered with cinematic weight. Its mixed audience reception reflects divided opinions on the reenactment style and its presentation of the material.
