## Synopsis

The Good Mothers (2023) is an Italian true-story crime drama miniseries created by Stephen Butchard for Disney+. Across six hour-long episodes, it follows three courageous women trapped inside the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia, where loyalty to family clans is a rigid code and betrayal carries lethal consequences. Gaia Girace plays Denise Cosco, whose choices sit at the center of the story, alongside Micaela Ramazzotti as Lea Garofalo and Valentina Bellè as Giuseppina Pesce. Their engine is a dangerous decision to speak out against the men who control their households, while a newly appointed female prosecutor, Alessandra Cerreti, works to turn their testimony into a case that can topple the criminal empire. Each episode builds tension through interrogations, family pressure, and the constant threat of retaliation, shaping the story into a single tightly paced arc. Set in the rugged, poverty-stricken towns of southern Italy, the series carries a grim, claustrophobic atmosphere and a melancholic sense of courage under pressure. Its tone is intense and emotionally harrowing, with a focus on resilience and the cost of resistance. Fans of Gomorrah and Mare of Easttown will find resonance in its gritty realism and female-driven investigation of crime.
