## Synopsis

Welcome to Utmark (2021) is a Norwegian dark comedy miniseries created for HBO Nordic. Set in an isolated Nordic wilderness community that lives by its own rules, the eight-episode limited series follows a cast of eccentric locals, including a corrupt sheriff, a cross-dressing farmer, a possessed shopkeeper, an alcoholic shepherd, a nature-loving bootlegger, a God-hating pastor and a grieving pimp. Ensemble cast members Rozafa Celaj, May-Linda Kosumovic, Tobias Santelmann, Stig Henrik Hoff and Niklas Gundersen anchor the interlocking stories, in which everyone knows everyone and every petty scheme echoes through the village. The engine of the show is the friction between private appetites and public law, as bootlegging, local feuds and small-town favors collide with official authority. Episodes unfold as loosely connected vignettes that build toward a shared community portrait. The tone blends deadpan absurdity with melancholy and rough, sardonic warmth, and its atmosphere is cold, rain-soaked and provincial. Fans of Fargo, Northern Exposure and Twin Peaks will find resonance in its offbeat rural eccentricity and its dark, character-driven comedy of a place out of step with the wider world.
