What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Michael Kohlhaas responds to a lord's abuse by demanding restoration of his rights and challenging the governing order.
The Cévennes setting, horse trading, armed campaign, and sparse historical environments create a grounded sixteenth-century atmosphere.
Kohlhaas's dispute with a powerful lord develops into his leadership of an army and a campaign across the country.
The central conflict pits a horse dealer's legal rights against a lord's privilege and the Governor's authority.
