What critics said
Critics broadly found the sequel exceptionally funny and unusually effective because it amplifies the stars' bromantic chemistry while making repetition itself part of the humor.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film openly treats returning to undercover school life as a knowingly recycled sequel premise, with repetition becoming a central comic engine.
Schmidt and Jenko's police partnership is strained by their different college identities and new friendships, yet remains the film's emotional center.
The undercover officers return to student life while struggling to behave as mature men and partners.
The undercover investigation repeatedly expands into broad comic chases, violence, and implausible police complications.
