What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Oliver Stone and Peter Kuznick present American history and foreign policy through a deliberately critical perspective that foregrounds forgotten players and contested interpretations.
The series repeatedly examines America's global role, foreign-policy decisions, and the consequences of acting as an international policeman.
Critics specifically praised the use of grainy newsreel footage, Soviet propaganda films, and extensive archival editing.
The twelve chapters cover major events and overlooked figures across America's complicated twentieth-century history rather than following one biography.
