What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Max gradually rejects his father John Wesley’s illegal whaling after witnessing the intelligence and social nature of Willy and other orcas.
Max’s discomfort with his father’s whaling business is intercut with Jesse, Randolph, and Drew’s efforts to study and protect Willy.
Jesse works aboard an orca-researching ship with Randolph and Drew while the whalers operate from a nearby vessel.
Jesse helps Max understand that whales are living, intelligent beings rather than commodities for profit or food.
