What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The protagonists live in a Beijing hutong, and the pigeon search begins with a notice posted within that community.
Dong Si and Shi Tiao begin looking for a pigeon after seeing a notice offering a large reward.
The central pursuit of a pigeon gives the grounded hutong setting an eccentric, lightly comic premise.
The two young men undertake the search together, making their joint activity the film's central relationship.
