The central conflict involves a forest preserve, an oil pipeline, and political interference by Prime Minister Polonius.
Eddie and Paige travel from Copenhagen to fictional Belavia and become involved in a local power struggle.
Paige recognizes Scott, her former high-school boyfriend, who is now a journalist involved in the opposing scheme.
Edvard uses royal authority to stop the preserve’s destruction, and the Danish parliament ultimately follows his leadership.
