What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Fioravante enters a prostitution arrangement but develops genuine affection for Avigal, complicating the business transaction.
The film treats Murray, Fioravante, Avigal, and the neighborhood figures as comic outsiders while preserving their vulnerability and warmth.
Avigal's Hasidic widowhood and Dovi's role in the Jewish neighborhood patrol create social pressure around her relationship with Fioravante.
Murray recruits Fioravante into a male prostitution business and acts as his pimp despite their very different temperaments.
