What critics said
Critics generally found the anthology intermittently entertaining and imaginative but uneven, derivative, and burdened by flashy styling and weaker segments.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Betty and Timmy's framing story introduces and connects three separate tales.
The film combines dark humor, lurid supernatural incidents, and conspicuous comic-book and film-noir flourishes.
The mummy, murderous cat, gargoyle imagery, and other creatures are realized through physical effects and makeup.
The stories repeatedly turn victimization, secrecy, and attempted violence back against the characters who initiate them.
