What critics said
Critics generally found the film a charming but routine family adventure whose broad humor and musical format did not consistently overcome its simplicity.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are recast as aspiring Musketeers in a playful adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's adventure tradition.
Pete dismisses Donald's cowardice, Goofy's dim-wittedness, and Mickey's stature before hiring the janitors as bodyguards.
Pete hires the clumsy janitors as Musketeers while secretly plotting to become king, unintentionally placing them near Minnie.
The film combines Dumas's Musketeer premise with DisneyToon musical-comedy conventions and the voices of Disney's core character performers.
