What critics said
Critics broadly found the film an intermittently clever but repetitive and overlong spoof whose occasional funny moments could not sustain its premise.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The Breather, sexualized killings, ominous calls, funerals, proms, and other familiar slasher beats are treated as comic material.
Classes, football games, parades, funerals, and proms provide the film's recurring backdrop for the killer's attacks and jokes.
The Breather combines heavy breathing, prank calls through a rubber chicken, and deliberately inane sexual dialogue.
The film knowingly assaults slasher clichés associated with early teen horror movies such as Halloween and Friday the 13th.
