What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The recurring patterned signal first appears in 1947 and later reaches the present-day team, prompting Julien Rome to decode it.
The investigation takes place at a South Pole research base near an unidentified object embedded in Antarctic ice.
The team attempts to open an unusual extraterrestrial shell even though the decoded message warns them not to do so.
The sealed object, distress signal, secret laboratory, and alien invasion premise create a threat centered on containment failure.
