What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Jeff Cole operates as both police officer and J. Reid while his superiors observe his growing identification with Dwayne Gittens’s world.
Gittens contributes to his community and helps people while torturing or killing those who challenge his criminal empire.
Cole develops a close friendship with Gittens just as the police gather enough evidence to prosecute him.
The film’s organized-crime setting, drug economy, African American central cast, and street-oriented presentation align with the hood-film tradition.
