What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Geoffrey's Angel of Death portrait and his desire to transform Sally's death into another artistic breakthrough connect painting with homicide.
The Carroll home is shaped by mysterious lighting, blowing curtains, creaking boards, closing doors, thunderstorms, and haunting paintings.
Geoffrey's courtship and domestic authority gradually become instruments for isolating and endangering Sally.
The portrait of the first Mrs. Carroll as the Angel of Death foreshadows Geoffrey's pattern of converting intimate violence into art.
