What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Nick Benko engineers fixed bouts with stiffs and has-beens to inflate Toro Moreno's record and maximize gate receipts.
Eddie Willis accepts Benko's lucrative publicity job despite knowing Toro is an inept fighter and later struggles after a boxer dies in the ring.
Rigged fights, sanguine boxing scenes, and the death of a boxer turn prizefighting into an indictment of profit-driven spectacle.
Eddie knows Toro is a stiff, while Benko's staged victories construct a public image of a rising heavyweight contender.
