What critics said
Critics were divided, with praise for Akshay Kumar's more sinister performance and the film's stunt spectacle offset by criticism of its over-the-top execution and uneven second-half characterization.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Akshay Kumar portrays both the criminal Dev and his gentler identical twin Anand, making mistaken identity central to the plot.
The film is retrospectively noted for its dangerous stunt sequences, especially the hot air balloon set piece.
Dev marries Ritu while concealing that he is a debt-ridden thug intending to use the marriage to repay his debts.
Ritu's life is destabilized after Dev's death and her encounter with the comparatively sober Anand.
