What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Riley's possession and opening of the ancient box summons the Cenobites and drives the plot.
The Cenobites are designed as elegant, runway-like figures composed of exposed flesh and surgical grotesquerie.
The Cenobites promise rewards while demanding sacrifices, collapsing the distinction between sensation, pleasure, and suffering.
Riley's struggle with addiction shapes her precarious circumstances when she encounters the puzzle box.
