What critics said
Critics generally found the film intermittently entertaining but undermined by a convoluted plot and an uneven attempt to balance spoof comedy with straight action.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The lifeguard team’s rescues, training mishaps, and undercover investigation are presented through broad R-rated comedy.
The film reworks the Baywatch lifeguard premise and characters as a contemporary theatrical action comedy.
Sun-kissed Emerald Bay, beaches, lifeguard towers, and highly stylized team presentation define the film’s world.
The elite, perfectly tanned lifeguards repeatedly undermine their polished image through rivalry, immaturity, and chaotic teamwork.
