What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Ravi sacrifices his savings to free Masha from servitude, while both remain trapped by economic exploitation and social power.
Ravi and Masha are portrayed at young, adult, and old ages, making time's physical and emotional effects central to the storytelling.
Masha becomes a brothel star after separation from Ravi, and her commodification defines the lovers' prolonged estrangement.
The textile plant, debt bondage, brothel life, and repeated separations give the romance a bleak, claustrophobic emotional register.
