What critics said
Critics broadly found the film entertaining but excessively over-the-top, with familiar franchise pleasures undermined by implausible plotting and weak dramatic material.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film features extreme vehicular action, including cars used in implausible high-risk maneuvers and a rocket-powered sequence.
Dom and Mia must confront their estranged brother Jakob while the fate of the crew and their family remains intertwined.
The film connects its present-day conflict to Dom's younger years and incorporates returning figures and references from earlier franchise entries.
The opening backstory set in the 1980s is presented with a deliberately retro visual treatment and gradually clarifies the brothers' history.
