What critics said
Critics broadly regarded the sequel as a weak, overly safe franchise entry whose action and comedy are undermined by a subdued Eddie Murphy performance and an ineffective villain.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Axel Foley investigates a criminal operation concealed within the WonderWorld amusement park.
Detroit officer Axel Foley operates amid Beverly Hills police culture and the highly controlled world of a Southern California theme park.
The production commentary and reception repeatedly focus on Axel's more serious characterization and the film's weaker continuation of the established formula.
WonderWorld's immaculate public image masks a sinister operation, while its chief of security appears respectable.
