What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The colorful stop-motion characters and silly nickname contrast with orphanhood, parental loss, alcoholism, and abusive home lives.
Courgette gradually finds trust, friendship, and possible love among the children and caregivers at the foster home.
The film uses distinctive 3D stop-motion puppets and colorful miniature environments to render a foster-home drama.
The orphanage initially feels hostile to Courgette but becomes the setting for mutual support and renewed trust.
