What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film escalates piranha attacks into deliberately ridiculous fountains of blood, nudity, gags, and grotesque kills.
Lake Victoria's crowded spring break festivities provide the piranhas with an unusually dense and chaotic target.
An underwater earthquake releases thousands of prehistoric piranhas, making extinction-era creatures the engine of the movie's set pieces.
The plot includes filming and underwater documentation around the spring break events, reinforcing its film-within-a-film texture.
