What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film frames vampiric terror through obsessive desire, period costume, candlelit interiors, and heightened gothic imagery.
Count Orlok is depicted as an overwhelming malevolent presence whose origins and intentions remain terrifyingly alien.
Ellen's haunted relationship with Orlok connects eroticism, possession, social mores, and supernatural horror.
Wind, rain, darkness, and decaying gothic spaces appear to bend toward Orlok's presence and sustain the film's dread.
