What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Mel is simultaneously drawn under the influence of Shepard and Warren, creating a three-way paternal dynamic that drives the drama.
The plot centers on Mel's adaptation to adult prison and the controlling bonds formed with Shepard and Warren.
Mel's transfer from juvenile to adult prison places every major relationship inside a restrictive, threatening institution.
The protection offered by Shepard and Warren becomes inseparable from the power structures that endanger Mel.
