What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Rantes claims to be an extraterrestrial, while the psychiatric institution frames his statements as delusion without conclusively resolving the question.
Dr. Denis is ordered to treat Rantes according to psychiatric procedure despite the patient's gentleness and perceptive criticism of human treatment.
Rantes says he has come to study human behavior, turning the ward and its staff into subjects of moral scrutiny.
The psychiatric hospital functions as the film's dominant environment, restricting movement while concentrating attention on patient, doctor, and institutional authority.
