What critics said
Critics generally found Jeremy Renner compelling and the action gripping, while viewing the sprawling conspiracy and franchise continuation as less coherent and compelling than the earlier Bourne films.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Aaron Cross becomes a target when the government shuts down Outcome and attempts to eliminate its operatives.
Cross's escape and Dr. Shearing's attempted assassination unfold as parallel survival stories before they join in Manila.
The film foregrounds rooftop pursuits, close combat, sniper attacks, and a large-scale Manila motorcycle chase.
Treadstone, Black Briar, and Outcome are dismantled through coordinated institutional damage control.
