What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Ryan Stone is left alone in space after the shuttle disaster, with Earth visible yet unreachable.
Long floating shots, detailed spacecraft interiors, and carefully rendered orbital movement emphasize bodily vulnerability.
The destruction of the shuttle leads to repeated problems involving oxygen, propulsion, communications, and reentry.
Stone's struggle to return home is shaped by personal bereavement and a gradual reawakening of hope.
