What critics said
Critics were divided between admiring the film’s fearless showmanship and rejecting it as a clichéd, self-indulgent vanity project.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The biopic is explicitly presented as part fact, part fiction, and much fantasy, with Darin confronting his younger self.
Kevin Spacey directs, co-writes, and stars as Bobby Darin, making authorship and impersonation central to the film’s identity.
Darin pursues Sinatra-level fame, navigates marriage and family pressures, and repeatedly reinvents his musical persona.
The film recreates Darin’s crooner career, Hollywood appearances, political-era performances, and early-1970s musical reinvention.
