What critics said
Critics broadly found the film to be an effects-driven supernatural action sequel with energetic combat but a thin, inconsequential story.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Selene, played by Kate Beckinsale, drives the film through heavily stylized armed combat and acrobatic attacks.
The twelve-year time jump reveals that humans have waged a campaign that nearly eradicates both vampires and Lycans.
Selene must protect twelve-year-old Eve, whose experimental hybrid nature makes her valuable to the Lycans.
The plot links vampire and Lycan mythology to Dr. Jacob Lane's scientific experiments and the human extermination campaign.
