What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Jim Davis is an ex-Army Ranger with PTSD whose instability shapes his criminal choices and failed law-enforcement ambitions.
Jim's bond with Mike repeatedly pulls Mike toward petty crime and threatens his relationship and future.
Small heists, unemployment, drinking, and precarious life in South Central Los Angeles drive the characters' downward trajectory.
The film's Los Angeles setting becomes a pressure chamber where criminal habits overwhelm plans for work, marriage, and stability.
