What critics said
Critics generally found the debut visually striking and well acted, while considering its spare storyline intriguing but thin and only partly successful.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Simone responds to a near-fatal crash by deciding she wants a child and asking Philippe to father it.
The journey to the Salt Lake City desert and the film's praised visuals make location and imagery central to the experience.
Simone chooses her best friend Philippe despite his existing relationship, forcing their bond into unfamiliar emotional territory.
The film is explicitly associated with ambiguity and leaves its lessons about love, solitude, and self-discovery without a fully determinate resolution.
