What critics said
Critics generally found the film taut and entertaining, with strong chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington offsetting familiar espionage plotting and uneven action execution.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The CIA-linked microchip functions as a concrete object around which the pursuit and betrayals revolve.
Matt Weston’s first major crisis places his limited field experience against Tobin Frost’s expertise and ruthlessness.
Weston cannot assume that CIA personnel or safe houses offer genuine security while Frost is hunted.
The safe-house assault, street chases, shootouts, and close-quarters combat create a visibly urgent action style.
