What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Bill's battle trauma and apparent viciousness lead to the question of whether a dog should be condemned as a killer.
Bill moves from ranch life and wild companionship into K-9 duty in the trenches before attempting to return home.
Kathie adopts Bill and remains emotionally connected to him through separation, military service, and his return.
Contemporary critical reception specifically identifies the film's polychromatic settings as a chief delight.
