What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Humanity has only 73 days before radiation makes Earth uninhabitable, structuring the voyage around urgent temporal pressure.
The film’s sleek future technology and spaceship imagery retain the 1970s illustrated style of the source series.
Former pilot Susumu Kodai must overcome his past and assume responsibility for the Yamato’s mission to save humanity.
Self-sacrifice and tragic destiny are central to the crew’s attempt to complete the mission before Earth’s extinction.
