What critics said
Critics broadly found the film's unabashedly puerile humor surprisingly compatible with genuine warmth and romantic heart.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film repeatedly turns sexual embarrassment, bodily mishaps, and breaches of decorum into its central comic set pieces.
Ted, Pat Healy, and other men become fixated on Mary as the dream girl and compete for access to her.
Private investigator Pat Healy supplies Ted with false information because he wants Mary for himself.
The film juxtaposes unabashedly crude gags with Ted's enduring affection and its ultimately warm romantic stakes.
